City of Gondomar

Located on the right bank of the River Douro at a mountainous zone cut by fertile valleys, Gondomar is an ancient town whose history goes back, according to legend, to the years between 610 – 612, when the Visigoth King Flavio Gundemaros explored this region rich in gold mines. Today the manufacture of gold and filigree is typical of Gondomar, and his known has Capital of Gold.
Gondomar belongs to the Metropolitan Area of Porto and it is located at around 5 km of the city of Porto. Gondomar (S. Cosme) is one of the 12 Parish Council of the Municipality of Gondomar and based in the census of 2011, it has a population of 27.047 habitants (in an area equal to 11,6 Km2).
